Nicholas Kirkwood

Creative diector of Pollini

The history of Nicholas Kirkwood is rich of success. Nicholas comes from a strong educational background, including the prestigious design schools "Central Saint Martins of London" and the "Cordwainers college of Fashion".

Nicholas launched his first collection in Spring 2005, inspired by modern architecture pieces, with a blend of genres subverting the relationship between tradition and modernity instantly won the attention of Grace Jones, Daphne Guinness and the late Isabella Blow, as well as rave reviews from industry insiders. Nicholas was awarded the "Conde Nast Footwear News Vivan Infantino award" in 2006 for emerging talent.

Craftsmanship plays an integral role in Nicholas 's collections. It is this perfection of craftsmanship itself that has a stylistic value highlighted by the use of geometric forms and strong clean lines. Nicholas shoes are free of excessive decorative elements and the focus is always on innovation of curvilinear forms. Unusual skins and techniques such as devore satin, hand-printed suede and leather, degrade python, shaved stingray, laser‐cut mirror leather, cobra, rubberized leather, and suede alligator are omnipresent.

Nicholas design is at the least, sharp and considered, balancing the line between masculinity and femininity.

The Spring/Summer 2008 collection won the prestigious "Alta Roma Vogue Italia award" for accessories design and the commendation of American Vogue's Editor at Large André Leon Talley and Italian Vogue's Editor in Chief Franca Sozzani. The collection showcased new developments in Kirkwood's work as well as a dedicated eveningwear sub-collection, the result of collaboration with Swarovski.

In November 2008, Nicholas was awarded for the "British Fashion Award" in the category of "Swarovski Emerging Talent for Accessories". In December 2008, Nicholas was awarded the "Footwear Designer of the Year" award by Conde Nast's Footwear News publication.
